Rumor: China ogling VW factories in Germany

Multiple Chinese automakers are showing interest in purchasing Volkswagen factories in Germany, Reuters reports.

These companies – who are still anonymous at this point – are reportedly interested in VW’s industrial complex in Osnabrück and its legendary glassworks in Dresden. After VW announced a major reorganization of production not long ago, the glass manufacture has largely been idling, having suddenly lost most of its planned production volumes.

By buying out Volkswagen’s plants in Europe, Chinese automotive companies may legally circumvent the barrier fees imposed by EU on their EV imports.

No company has come out with a confirmation yet, so we have to treat these reports as a rumor – even if it comes from a source as reputable as Reuters.
