Falling tree made a convertible out of this Jeep Liberty

Crossover SUVs may be popular and all, but their topless variants – Nissan Murano, for example – fall behind in terms of sales. If you think the owner of this Jeep Liberty cabriolet chopped off the roof because he wanted it, you are mistaken.

Actually, the roof was lost when a tree branch fell on it, damaging it badly. We can imagine how expensive replacement could be, and the owner of the car probably did the math himself, too, because he decided to get rid of what was left of the car’s top.

He cut the roof off starting just above the windshield and going in a descending line just above the doors. As a result, the B- and C-pillars were essentially lost. The owner reassures us that the car still feels stable enough on the road – more so than you would imagine, given the circumstances – but admits that a new frame is necessary.

To that end, he intends to retrofit the car with a tube-frame spanning the entire length from the windshield to the rear fascia, and restore the pillars, too. The top will not make it back, though.

How do you like this Liberty?
