Any interest in a retrolicious 1976 Volga packed with Soviet charms?

A nearly 50-year-old GAZ-24 sedan, also known under the name Volga, will be heading to an auction in the United States soon, poised to win $20,000–30,000 thanks to a number of USSR-era relics included in the sale.

Based on the photos, both the light grey exterior of the car and its bright red interior have withstood the test of time very well. The seller fails to mention whether it’s stock or restored, but it looks solid for a half-a-century-old executive car. It also preserves its stock 2.4-liter, 95-horsepower (70-kW) engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission.

The GAZ-24 “Volga” (see video) has not normally been exported to the USA, and the history of this particular car remains shrouded in mystery. Judging by the license plate with the letters “KXE”, it was commissioned for road use in Kyiv. The numbers 24-02 nearly match the model designation: all Volga sedans were internally known as the model 24-01, whereas their wagon counterparts were called the 24-02.

The seller is including a manual and a repair kit with the lot. Interestingly enough, the car also comes with a heap of traffic tickets issued in the USSR in 1978. Once again, there are no photos of the tickets themselves, so it remains a mystery whether they were issued in the name of the original owner of the car or are just random tickets from that year.
