Alpine, a performance vehicle manufacturer owned by Groupe Renault, has started taking an extreme modification of its A110 coupe out for test drives. The corresponding spy shots found their way a few hours ago.
In all likelihood, the company is testing a street-legal version of the A110 GT4 racecar that debuted at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland this March.
There are predictions that the sports car will be getting the same 1.8-liter engine as the new Renault Megane RS Trophy, albeit with some improvements. The Megane has 300 horsepower (224 kilowatts) along with 400 Newton-meters (298 pound-feet) of torque at its disposal. It ships with a choice between two transmissions, six-speed manual and six-speed automatic.
The hardcore Alpine A110 should also get high-end Brembo brakes, adjustable shock absorbers, and racetrack-optimized chassis with low ride height.
The regular Alpine A110 made its first appearance at the Geneva show three years ago. It came equipped with a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine churning out 252 hp (188 kW) and could accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds.
