3D artist Frederick Mueller has opened a curious exhibition titled Rides of the Wild at the MB&F M.A.D. Gallery in Switzerland. The illustrations depict classical cars transformed to look like wild animals. Among other works, there is a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray looking like an alligator and an Aston Martin DB5 stylized as a hippopotamus.
The choice of cars, the artist explained, was not by any means coincidental. Each of the vehicles on display sported certain intrinsic qualities that inspired the analogy. For example, the Corvette Stingray has a protruding hood reminiscent of an alligator’s nose, while the bulky, round body of the DB5 bears a likeness to that of the hippopotamus. Then there is a lion-shaped Ford F-250, an analogy brought about by the feral roar of its engine.
Of course, Frederick Mueller is neither the first nor the only artist to use retro vehicles as a source of inspiration. A few months ago, famous 3D artist Fabian Oefner finished photographing every last minute part of the Lamborghini Miura SV supercar only so that he could combine them in a single work of art showing the Miura exploding into thousands of individual pieces. Some time earlier, Italian sculptor Nazareno Biondo produced a life-sized sculpture chiseled out of marble, depicting the Fiat 500.
