Ineos Grenadier a.k.a. Defender Wannabe: First spy shots

Ineos Automotive is wrapping up the initial road tests of its Grenadier SUV, which essentially mimics the previous-gen Land Rover Defender in its looks and tech. Let us view the photos and watch the teaser video.

Jim Ratcliffe has co-designed the Grenadier with Magna Steyr and MBTech, and will be launching production in Bridge End, South Wales, in 2021. The car will take advantage of a body-on-frame design and ride on Carraro tractor axles made in Italy. It will draw its power from an inline-six BMW engine with three liters of displacement and benefit from reduced boost pressure, which should translate into longer service life. Eight-speed ZF automatic will work in tandem with a reduction gear and three locking differentials. As for the cabin, rumors claim that it will be very modest and minimalistic, lacking even a multimedia system.

The Ineos Grenadier will ship in multiple body styles to choose from, notably including a pickup version. Annual production should amount to 25,000 units, and prices will lie within the £30,000 - £45,000 range. The new Land Rover Defender starts from £40,000 in Great Britain.
