Video: Listen to an ancient racing V16 sing like it did 70 years ago

Auto restoration shop Hall and Hall has decided to celebrate the 70th birthday of the BRM Racing Team by overhauling the venerable P15 racer that took part in the Formula 1 championship in mid-20th century.

The video shows the old V16 being fired up for the first time in 22 years, but it still sounds exactly the same as it did in the distant year 1951 despite some structural damage.

The tuner intends to produce three P15 replicas and put this racing mill into one of them. The unit has mere 1.5 liters of displacement and uses them to hit the wheels with 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW). Ever since a racing driver carelessly let the rev count pass the red line during a public event 22 years ago, the car has stood parked in a garage.
