EV startup Rivian posted a video yesterday showing its R1T pickup truck doing a tank turn (i.e., a four-wheel standing turn). The company claims its R1S SUV can do the same.
Rivian warns that performing tricks like this is tire-friendly on snow, gravel or dirt, but not so on dry asphalt.
Both the R1T and R1S will ship with the same powertrain: a quad-engine setup distributed one per wheel (200 hp / 150 kW per wheel, 800 hp / 600 kW total). Customers will be able to choose from three battery sizes: 105, 135, and 180 kWh.
Rivian patented ‘Tank Turn’ and ‘Tank Steer’ features this summer, and we are yet to witness the latter. The company, which hasn’t produced any cars yet, nonetheless enjoys serious attention from investors, receiving another 1.3 billion USD a few days ago.
