China teases a highly unusual ‘green’ SUV concept

Singulato, a Chinese conglomerate of industrial companies, has presented an early environmentally-friendly crossover/SUV prototype. And there is a lot to marvel upon.

The seven-seat Singulato iS6 is 5 meters (16 ft.) long and has a 3-meter (10 ft.) wheelbase. Its headlights are reminiscent of those of the latest Range Rover and house LED daytime running lights inside.

The rest is anything but commonplace. The passenger compartment has 12 USB charging ports along the entire perimeter. All around you are huge displays and touch-sensitive interfaces. The doors are rear-hinged – something you would consider appropriate on a horse-drawn carriage, perhaps, but not so much on a motorized vehicle where these became known as ‘suicide doors’ for a perfectly good reason.

The interior of the Singulato iS6 is dominated by a humongous 15.6-inch touch-sensitive infotainment display, a heads-up display and a 100% digital dashboard over 12 inches across.

The vehicle commands two electric engines together capable of 350 hp (260 kW) and 580 Nm (428 lb·ft) of torque. Manufacturer promises up to 400 km (250 mi) in terms of driving range.

The singular Singulato iS6 is actually expected to hit the mass market in 2020.
