It looks like the North American-only Subaru Ascent SUV may soon be released on the Chinese market as well. At least, several photos of the vehicle have made it to that country’s patent record database.
Judging by the images, the Chinese Ascent won’t be look different from its U.S. counterpart that sells for $32,000 and above.
The eight-seat off-roader utilizes the SGP chassis and houses a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with 260 hp (194 kW) coupled with an IVT box.
The Hyundai Ascent originally premiered at the Los-Angeles International Auto Show in December 2017. Brand representatives have repeatedly said it was designed especially for the U.S. market. It is therefore unclear why the company decided to bring it to China after all. Poor sales figures may be a reasonable explanation, though.
