Participating in the ceremony of laying the foundation of a car factory in Bursa Province, Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the country would produce its first fully electric production car in late 2022.
TOGG, or Turkey's Automobile Joint Venture Group Inc, has been working on designing the nation’s first EV since 2017 and showed us some early prototypes put in SUV and sedan bodies late last year.
Worldwide famous Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina took part in the design, too, stylizing the wheel spokes and radiator grille fins after classical ornaments found in Turkish culture.
The company has even posted some preliminary specs for the SUV version of the car. It is designed to mainly ship rear-wheel driven by a single 200hp (150kW) electric motor. The AWD version packs dual motors and 400 hp (300 kW). The former is going to be able to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.6 seconds, while the latter should manage the same in just 4.8 seconds. Driving range will vary between 300 and 480 kilometers (186 – 300 miles) depending on battery size.
