Supercar builder SSC North America has come to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance with its latest creation, a hypercar named Tuatara after a New Zealand lizard species. The reptilian vehicle has received an insanely powerful motor rated at 1,750 hp (1,305 kW).
The manufacturer warns that this kind of performance is only attainable when using the E85 racing-grade fuel. When using the regular 91-octane gasoline, the number drops to 1,350 hp (1,007 kW).
SSC North America has developed the engine in cooperation with Nelson Racing Engines. The unit is coupled with a 7-speed computerized manual transmission, but gear switching occurs automatically.
The hypercar has all-carbon chassis and body, resulting in an aerodynamic drag of just 0.27 Cx.
Pre-orders have already started. Assembly will begin as soon as the company finishes building a new factory in West Richland, WA. A total of 100 SSC Tuataras will roll off the assembly lines.
