Meet Storm, a monstrous all-terrain hybrid

Ukraine-based startup company Highland Systems caused quite a stir at the latest IREX show in Abu Dhabi, UAE with its insane part-electric off-roader on tank tracks. Here are the first details.

As it turns out, the Storm relies on a hybrid powertrain for propulsion. It is rated for up to 3.5 hours of all-electric driving, depending on the speed.

The power output amounts to 2,500 PS (2,465 hp / 1,839 kW), which may look like much but is in fact a bare necessity for an armored vehicle weighing in at eight metric tons (17,636 lbs). The top speed is capped at 140 km/h (87 mph) on land and 30 km/h (18.6 mph) on water. The company claims it can remain amphibious even with waves reaching as high as 1.5 meters (4.9 feet).

Rounding off the claimed feature list is a possibility for remote control. While the above may sound impressive, Highland Systems only has a very early prototype on its hands for testing.
