Israel-based car startup City Transformer has come to the IAA Munich show with an electric subcompact car capable of shrinking its track. Pre-orders are open starting from €12,500, and the price will go up to €16,000 on launch day.
The tiny urban ride has two seats installed one behind the other, and is only one meter (3.1 feet) wide when parked. The development team claims it thus saves up to 75% of parking space, and enables parking as many as four City Transformers on a single standard parking spot. Importantly enough, it also raises your chances to find a free parking slot by a factor of 10, making the car as convenient as a motorcycle. To further assist with the space conservation, the doors swing open Lambo-like.
When driving, the track extends to 1.4 meters (4.6 feet) for stability. Each wheel comes out of its arch by a further 20 centimeters, or 7.8 inches. The wheelbase and body dimensions are permanent at 1.8 and 2.5 meters (5.91 and 8.2 feet, correspondingly).
A duo of 7.5-kW electric motors get the car from zero to 50 km/h (0-31 mph) in around five seconds, and the top speed lies at 90 km/h (56 mph). Once fully charged, the Transporter can cover up to 180 km (112 mph).
