The self-driving vehicle manufacturer Roborace has applied for participation in the Goodwood Festival of Speed held annually in West Sussex, England. The company wants to enter the competition with a driverless, fully autonomous car.
The race participants will attempt a difficult hill climb, squeezing the most out of their skills and abilities. The Roborace racecar will do the same unattended by a living person, using its GPS, laser rangefinders, various sensors and panoramic cameras. All real-time data will be processed by an AI developed by Arrival.
The visitors will get a dedicated VR booth where they will be able to see the race from the “eyes” of the Roborace car.
The vehicle will be driven by four electric motors (two per axle) with 500 hp / 373 kW total power output. Weighing in under 1,350 kg (3,000 lb), it is going to be able to accelerate past 300 km/h (187 mph).
