Huawei and Ceres have worked together to establish a new automotive brand, AITO, and unveil its first part-electric SUV, the M5. Here’s what it brings to the table.
The car is a mid-size SUV 4,770 mm (186.3 inches) long with 2,880 mm (112.5 inches) between the axles. It comes with 19- and 20-inch wheels and has a Huawei infotainment system inside. It allegedly weighs in at just 1.3 metric tons (2,850 lbs) despite having 200 kWh worth of batteries on board.
A 1.5-liter petrol turbo with 125 PS (123 hp / 92 kW) of its own receives assistance from a pair of electric motors for a system output of 430 PS (424 hp / 316 kW). The claimed range exceeds 1,000 kilometers (620 miles).
Rumors that Huawei was interested in becoming a car manufacturer emerged in February this year, and the executives of the company were quick to refute them. As it turns out, however, Huawei has a strong interest in this market. AITO is actually its second brand after Avatar, which it introduced a few weeks ago alongside CATL and Changan.
