French automaker Delage has not produced a single car in 67 years, but this going to change when a small production batch of D12 superhybrids hits the market next year. Today, the company revealed the final specs of the model – and while they are lower than the ones rumored in June, there is still plenty of thrust under the hood.
After Delage unveiled its D12 to select customers in December 2019, rumors appeared that it would be packing 1,247 horsepower (930 kW). According to the official spec sheet revealed today, the track projectile will ship in two versions: GT, which weighs in at 1.4 metric tons (3,085 lbs), and Club, which is lighter at just 1,310 kilos (2,888 lbs). The former will get 1,115 horsepower (831 kilowatts) at the crank and the latter 1,024 hp (764 kW).
To be more specific, both models come with the same naturally aspirated V12 with 7.6 liters of displacement room at its disposal. The only parameter that changes is the power output of the electric motor integrated into the car’s eight-speed automatic transmission. As it turns out, Delage had originally planned to outfit the build with dual electric motors, but ultimately decided that one would be enough. In both cases, the drive is on the rear axle, and sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) succeeds in mere 2.5 seconds.
The supercar boasts carbon-fiber body and chassis, as well as a pushrod suspension design similar to that used in Formula One racecars. There are two seats located one behind another, a racing steering wheel, and as many as three dashboard displays. Luxury features, such as the Focal audio system, are also present.
Entrepreneur Laurent Tapie declared he wanted to resurrect the iconic car marque some time ago. He purchased the trademark rights from Louis Delage’s heirs and announced the forthcoming production of just 30 D12 units priced close to €2 million in Courbevoie Commune, France. Before he can begin the actual assembly, however, he will have to settle the dispute with the government, as the building the old factory is located in bears the status of a protected architectural property.
According to the manufacturer, the Delage D12 should set a new Nürburgring record for road-legal supercars.
