U.S.-based automaker Mullen has announced its first production EV at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Called the Five, it should be capable of accelerating 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) in 3.2 seconds in the base $55,000 specification.
To put things into perspective, the Tesla Model Y needs around 3.5 seconds to get to the same speed and starts at around $64,000.
Motor output remains unspecified, but we know that the battery is rated at 95 kWh and 520 km (323 miles) of range. Charging it from zero to 80% succeeds in 21 minutes.
According to Mullen as quoted by Autocar, equipment options will include assorted driver aids, face recognition, active noise cancelling, and a dedicated infotainment system for rear seat occupants. A power-boosted RS version is also in the plans, promising a sprint time of under two seconds and a top speed of over 322 km/h (200 mph).
The production will not begin until late 2023, though, and the first deliveries are expected to start in the second quarter of 2024. Pre-orders are already being taken starting from $100.
