One-off Dowsetts Comet set to bring home £70k, half of its original price

A unique coupe named the Dowsetts Comet will go under the hammer in UK in mid-November. Created by the famous Ant Anstead of Dowsetts Classic Cars, the vintage-themed ride with around 4,000 km (2,500 miles) on the odo should be able to go for £70,000 or so.

The sports car features a stainless-steel spaceframe and a glass-fiber body reinforced with Kevlar strands. It looks much like mid-20th century era cars, but comes finished in Porsche Crayon Grey, which is uncharacteristic for that period.

Red quilter leather, aluminum and stainless steel greet the viewer in the retro cabin. There is an AC on board, a fully featured multimedia system, satellite navigation, and a reversing camera. Apparently, the customer who ordered this unique creation wanted to make it their daily driver.

A 6.2-liter GM V8 under the hood churns out 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) in conjunction with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. The car needs 3.9 seconds to go from nothing to 60 mph (97 km/h).

The seller claims Anstead only built two such Comets, and one is no longer stock, as it is currently being turned into an EV by its U.S.-based owner.

This example cost £140,000 to make. The reason for sale is rather unfortunate: the current owner has suffered a back injury that prevents them from driving the car.
