GMA T.50 Coupe to get a 100% in-house designed non-turbo engine

Gordon Murray, one of the co-authors of the McLaren F1, has teamed up with Cosworth to fit its upcoming GMA T.50 supercar with the highest-RPM engine in the history of production vehicles.

The unit is V-shaped and has 12 cylinders along with 3.9 liters of total displacement room. The important point is that it doesn’t borrow a single component from another engine model and is therefore a 100% original design. It can rev up to 11,500 RPM to churn out 663 horsepower (494 kW), and produces 467 Nm (344 lb-ft) of maximum torque at 9,000 RPM. A 48V starter-generator assists it in a mild-hybrid way.

Another major feature of the new engine is its extremely fast throttle response. Finally, the GMA T.50 has a carbon-bodied air intake for inertial supercharging and an extra dose of powerful engine sound during rapid acceleration.

The 3.9-liter V12 partners up with a six-speed Xtrac transmission to send the momentum to the wheels. We will learn more when the car debuts on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
