Joseph Biden, the newly elected President of the United States, hopes that the Made in America order will incentivize government organizations to purchase more goods of domestic make – and cars are not an exception.
The entire government-owned car fleet is to be phased out in favor of made-in-USA electric vehicles. No specific makes or models are mentioned.
An earlier law held that a vehicle could be considered made domestically if at least 50% of its constituent parts was produced in the States. This ratio will soon be revised towards even greater localization. Made in America is the largest state-funded investment in industry since the World War II, and it is expected to create an additional 1,000,000 jobs.
Biden has also called upon companies to invest in power cell and AI technologies, which could also have an impact on the car industry as a whole.
