China rolls out two high-tech, self-driving EV prototypes

Chinese automaker Voyah has attended the show in Beijing with concept versions of its two impending production EVs: i-Land and iFree.

The former is a coupe-shaped sports vehicle designed by Italdesign, which is a part of Volkswagen Group. Rather than being all-new, the car is essentially a polished version of the DaVinci Concept revealed last spring, with different front clip and interior.

No technical information is available, but Italdesign claims its original concept was that of an all-wheel drive car with a bottom-mounted traction battery and motors at both ends. The availability timeframe also remains unannounced, but the carmaker says it will ship with a Level 3 self-driving system or better on board.

As for the iFree, it is an SUV fully developed by Voyah based on the EAAS platform by Dongfeng. It is expected to hit the showrooms in 2021.
