The Swiss company Rinspeed has founded a startup called Snap Motion to design, develop and produce a series of pilotless cars.
Rinspeed decided to launch small-batch production after its Snap Concept turned out to be a big success at the latest Geneva International Motor Show. Maybe the startup firm will use the existing vehicle as the prototype for the production car, maybe not.
The Rinspeed Snap consists of two modules: a passenger pod and a self-driving chassis, nicknamed “The Skateboard”. The pod can be reorganized to fulfil any number of functions, some of the highlights being a mobile office, a motorhome, and a cargo transporter.
Snap Motion said it would try to implement all features the prototype car had in its final production version. The engineers will first have to design the entire mechanical and electrical base for it and develop the necessary software.
It is still unknown when the pilotless “skateboard car” hits the public roads.
