Improvised BMW 3.0 CSL racer heading to auction

BMW only produced around 1,000 road-legal lightweight 3.0 CSL Coupes, largely because its racing counterpart won six touring races in Europe. This 49-year-old example will soon go on sale with heavy racecar styling on.

On the outside, the car wears a livery and something resembling the 3.0 CSL racer’s aerodynamic kit. It rides on wide BBS wheels wrapped in Hoosier slicks, and has exhaust pipes in front of its rear wheel arches.

The interior enjoys a similar stylistic makeover with a roll cage, a special dashboard and bucket seats. Power for the stock car (which you can see in the video) comes from an inline-six engine rated up to 206 PS (203 hp / 151 kW) in tandem with a four-speed manual transmission. The output of this modified example is not specified.

There is a caption reading ‘New Zealand’ hinting at the origins of the vehicle, which currently resides in the United States. Pricing remains unannounced.
