Lucid Air EV sedan/saloon to shake the showrooms with 1,000HP in late 2020

US carmaker Lucid Motors, formerly known as Atieva, has issued an official statement saying that its all-new electric super sedan/saloon would reach production in late 2020.

In its top configuration, the Lucid Air will output 1,013 PS (1,000 hp, or 745 kilowatts) to the wheels and zap from nothing to 96.5 km/h (60 mph) in just 2.5 seconds. It will be capped at 322 km/h (200 mph) and cover at least 643 kilometers (400 miles) if you max out its impressive 130-kWh battery array.

The entry-level version will cost 60,000 USD and pack significantly inferior specs: only 405 PS (400 hp, or 298 kW) of power and 386 kilometers (240 miles) of range.

The company is currently building a factory in Casa-Grande, Arisona, USA. The factory will be commissioned one stage after another over the project timespan of 6 years. Lucid hopes to have 2,000 employers producing around 20,000 cars annually by 2022.

The CEO of the company is Peter Rawlinson, previously affiliated with Jaguar, Lotus and Tesla. The Production Manager is Peter Hochholdinger, another Tesla ex-manager. As for the traction batteries, Lucid has signed shipment contracts with Samsung and LG Chem.
