That Record Ain’t Happening: Bloodhound wraps us its ludicrous 135,000hp car project

Ever since 2007, Bloodhound Programme Ltd. has been working on building a 135,000hp (100,669 kW) strong hypercar called the Bloodhound SSC. The goal of the ambitious project was to create a land vehicle capable of setting the ultimate speed record. Now it looks like we will never be seeing the monster car come to life…

As it turns out, the company has failed to secure an additional £25,000,000 of funding to repay all the debts and complete the project.

A representative said much of this had to do with Brexit. Allegedly, several of their sponsors and partners – such as Jaguar Land Rover и Geely – cut the funding as soon as it became clear that the Britain was leaving the EU.

The latest existing Bloodhound SSC prototype is 13.5 meters (44.3 ft.) long and weighing 8 metric tons (17,500+ lb). It comes powered with a hybrid system comprised of a rocket engine and a jet engine. A 5.0-liter turbocharged engine of the Jaguar F-Type R acts as a fuel pump.

Last fall, Bloodhound SSC managed to accelerate to 322 km/h (200 mph). The company wanted to subsequently test it in a desert environment near SAR, where it was expected to accelerate to 966 km/h (600 mph) and eventually to 1,228 km/h (763 mph).
