Chinese e-SUV strikes a Guinness record with 15,022 km traveled

Automaker Aiways has taken its latest all-electric SUV concept, the U5, on a 53-day long drive from Xi'an, China, to Frankfurt, Germany. The journey made an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as ‘the longest ride on an all-electric car (concept)’.

Two SUVs started their journey on July 17, 2019. They have subsequently crossed the borders of 12 countries and arrived in Frankfurt on September 7, still well ahead of the opening day of the IAA 2019.

The prototype vehicle packs a front-axle-mounted electric motor rated at 190 hp (142 kW) and 315 Nm (232 pound-feet) of torque. A 65kWh battery gives it 503 kilometers (375 miles) of NEDC-rated range, while an optional 18kWh battery extension adds another 120 km/h (75 miles).

Aiways is currently busy obtaining the necessary certificates and should launch the crossover in Europe in April next year.
