This 7.0L Mopar crate engine costs more than a new Dodge Challenger

Mopar, an in-house customization shop of Fiat-Chrysler Automotive, has launched its new seven-liter V8 engine called the Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI, or simply Hellephant. The engine has been specifically designed for installation on pre-1976 cars and costs U.S. $30,000, which is $2,700 more than the current price of the standard Dodge Challenger.

Mopar first unveiled its creation at the last year’s SEMA show. The unit is based on the 6.2 Hellcat V8 retrofitted with the Challenger Drag Pak aluminum cylinder housing and the SRT Demon valve gear assembly. Its output reportedly amounts to 1,014 horsepower (756 kilowatts) along with 1,288 Nm (950 pound-feet) of torque.

The Hellephant crate kit ships with a flywheel, a water pump, a turbine charger, fuel injectors, and an oil sump. Another $2,265 buys you the necessary wiring, an engine control unit (ECU), a fuel pump, an oxygen sensor, a CAN bus interface device, and a gas pedal.
