Work on the Bloodhound LSR Project (that’s “Land Speed Record”) has been stalling lately, but the team behind the rocket-mobile is actively looking for a driver willing to invest substantial money in the project in exchange for the possibility to score the title of world’s fastest driver in history. Candidates are asked to invest £12 million (over $14 million) into completing the car.
The company says the money should be enough to finish preparing the monstrous car for its ultimate record-breaking run. 26 years ago, driver Andy Green was able to get it to 1,228 kilometers per hour (763 miles per hour). The current goal is 1,288 km/h, or 800 mph. Green says he is willing to train a successor and let them drive the Bloodhound faster than it ever was driven.
The Bloodhound LSR project team argues that £12M is not that big of a sum to attain worldwide fame and stay undefeated for several more years (there aren’t any competing land speed projects going on right now). But even if no one comes forward with the required investment, the team hopes to gain plenty of publicity from the announcement itself – perhaps enough for sponsors to show up at their door soon. We will see how the events develop.
