An all-electric Volkswagen ID.3 has recently traveled all the way from its origin site of Zwickau, Germany, to Schaffhausen, Switzerland, covering 531 km (330 miles) on a single charge. This is 111 km / 69 miles above its WLTP-rated range of 420 km (261 mi).
The model used was an ID.3 1st Pro Performance, which packed a 58-kWh battery and a single electric motor rated at 204 PS (150 kW). Highways summed up for less than a half of the route, with the rest being composed of suburban roads. The average speed amounted to 56 km/h (35 mph).
One may say that the mastery of the driver contributed in no small way towards the impressive result. Felix Egolf, a talented electric car driver known for his ability to squeeze the most out of the battery power available, often drove behind large trucks to reduce aerodynamic drag and often coasted on pure inertia. Even then, his trickery was at least partially offset by the presence of a video operator inside the car, complete with his bulky video camera and other gear.
