Media learned a few days ago that Tesla CEO briefly visited the Airport of Braunschweig, Germany, to meet up with Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess and test-drive the battery-powered ID.3. Today, Mr. Diess shared the video of that meeting with us.
The test drive begins with VW CEO warning his U.S. colleague that the ID.3 is not a sports car and should not be mistaken for one. Musk replies that the acceleration is actually pretty decent for a non-sports car, and follows up with questions about lane control and battery capacity. Not holding back, Diess praises the lane control system as a “work of art” and cites the nominal battery size, rather than its actual (useful/smaller) capacity.
Naturally, the appearance of the video prompted speculation from fans of both marques that a VW-Tesla collaboration was underway. Diess quickly put these rumors to rest saying such a possibility was never discussed.
