The German automotive giant only has the ID.3 hatchback and the ID.4 SUV to offer right now, but many other battery-powered models should follow soon.
The ID.4 will get two modifications in early 2021: GTX, which will feature dual motors and all-wheel drive, and ID.5, which will be a coupe-SUV technically identical to the ID.4. Overall, seeing that the model was the first to become available in North America and received two different versions in China – Crozz and X – Volkswagen must be placing high hopes on it.
Next in the list is the ID.3, which will get new trim levels, more engine power and range towards mid-2021. A van called the ID.Cargo and a minivan named the ID.7 will follow a year a year after that, the latter based on the ID. Buzz Concept.
The ID.6 lineup will start with a sedan and a wagon due out in 2023: the former will be based on the ID. Vizzion Concept and the latter on the ID. Space Vizzion. In 2024-2025, compact-sized ID.1 and ID.2 models will follow based on the trimmed-down tech platform MEB-Lite.
The future of the full-size SUVs ID.8 and ID.9 remains undecided so far. The off-road-capable ID. Ruggdzz SUV has been eliminated from the list for the time being, but the company says it hasn’t abandoned it and might return to it later. With the bankruptcy of the German startup automaker e.Go Mobile, the ID. Buggy is essentially gone for good: the company, which had partnered up with VW to produce a stylish dune buggy running on electric power, never sold enough of its e.Go Life EVs to keep itself afloat.
