VW Group has officially started the production of its ID.3 electric hatchback at the Gläserne Manufaktur site in Dresden, Germany, dubbed the Transparent (or Glass) Factory.
The model is already in production at the Zwickau site. The Transparent Factory is the fourth VW destination for VW MEB-based cars and also the place of origin of this electric platform.
Danny Auerswald, the manager of the site, said he hoped it would grow to become an assembly plant, a car dealership, an event center, a landmark, and a research lab all at once. He added that he wanted people to come there seeking car purchasing advice, a tour across the facilities, or a test drive of a car they like.
The Glass Factory handed 3,296 vehicles over to their buyers in 2020. The number is expected to rise to 5,000 this year and to 9,700 the next one. The VW ID.3 is currently being produced in one work shift at a rate of 35 daily units.
