Groningen, Netherlands made international headlines this weekend when a Volkswagen ID.3 burst into flames after charging. The owner claims she did nothing to cause it.
According to reports, the car was sitting next to a charging terminal. Once the charging was complete, the owner unplugged the cord, put her child on the rear seat and was about to drive away when she noticed smoke.
The woman immediately grabbed the kid and started walking away from the car when it spontaneously collapsed in flames. Witnesses were able to record a video of the incident, and while the firefighters took mere minutes to arrive, they were helpless to prevent the vehicle from burning down completely. Adding insult to injury, a Nissan Leaf parked next to the problematic ID.3 was also damaged in the incident. Luckily, no one was injured.
Volkswagen promised it would conduct a thorough expertise of the charred remains to determine the causes of the fire. But will it be enough for potential buyers to still consider the ID.3 as an option?
