SSC North America has released engine pictures of the new Tuatara hypercar. Preliminary data indicate that the engine in question is a 7.0-liter, twin-turbo unit capable of exceeding 1,370 hp (1,022 kW) and 1,735 Nm (1,280 lb·ft) of torque.
The car was named after a reptile species native to New Zealand, which looks like a lizard and belongs to the Sphenodontida order.
SSC North America has been working on the project for seven years now – and the exact engine properties still haven’t been confirmed. Representatives of the company used to say that the sport vehicle would get a 1,369-hp engine, but an announcement was issued later stating that the performance will be higher than that.
Industry experts assume that the SSC Tuatara will be able to accelerate 0-100 km/h (i.e., 0-60 mph) in 2.5 seconds and ultimately surpass the 440 km/h (273 mph) mark.
Whatever the speculation, the allegedly fastest-going street-legal car in the world will premiere at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in late August.
