Volkswagen ID.4 GTX announced for spring 2021

Volkswagen will be launching a performance-oriented GTX variant of its ID.4 e-SUV next spring. Here is what it shapes up to be.

The sported-up crossover packs dual electric motors joining their efforts for 306 PS (302 hp / 225 kW) total. Unlike the standard ID.4, which does the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.5 seconds, the new one will only need 6.2 seconds. The manufacturer claims that the WLTP-rated driving range will remain unchanged at 470 – 520 km (292 – 323 miles), depending on the use scenario.

Prices aren’t being discussed at this point, but it stands to reason that the new ID.4 will be priced above the current flagship, the 1st Max Edition, which starts from €59,950 in Europe.

The standard VW ID.4, which you can have a better look at in our gallery and the video, is being produced in Zwickau, Germany. Pre-orders have been open since September 23rd starting at €44,450. A more affordable €37,000 spec should emerge in early 2021.

Similar models are being produced in China as well: the SAIC-VW joint enterprise in Jiading District makes the ID.4 X, while the FAW-VW factory in Foshan pieces together the ID.4 Crozz. Sales in China will begin in March.
