Volkswagen AG seriously intends to launch a high-end all-electric saloon by mid-2020s that would wrestle some of the market share from the Tesla Model S.
While not official yet, the description provided best fits the ID Vizzion Concept featured in our gallery and the video here. The company had originally intended to unveil a production car based on that study in 2022; maybe that’s what it will be.
The EV will be based on the same platform as the ID.3 and ID.4 – MEB – and go into production in Wolfsburg, Germany. The automaker says it will upgrade the Wolfsburg factory to become an “innovation-packed EV production plant”.
Customers will likely see the new flagship saloon by mid-2020s, and VW says it hopes to churn out up to 300,000 annual units – but only as long as it succeeds in launching secondary production sites in China and the United States by then.
