The electric SUV Volkswagen ID.4 will soon become available in a wide variety of trim levels. Sales in Europe and China are planned for March, and the United States should follow in summer.
Customers in Europe will be able to choose from nine trims, starting with the somewhat misleadingly named “Pure Performance” version rated at only 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW). This specification includes a 52-kWh traction battery and guarantees 346 kilometers (215 miles) of WLTP-rated range. Prices in Germany will begin from €38,450, and a €9,000 tax deduction will apply to this amount.
The U.S. lineup starts from a higher trim named Pro, which has 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and packs a larger 77-kWh battery. Prices will start at U.S. $39,995 ($32,495 if you subtract the state EV subsidy), and an AWD version will ship in mid-2021 priced at a $3,680 premium over the standard car. Its dual motor will churn out 306 PS (302 hp / 225 kW) total.
Standard equipment for all trims includes a Discover Pro navigation system with We Connect Start support. The top trims – Max and Tech – will additionally be getting a HUD with Augmented Reality support, enabling them to overlay navigation directions straight onto the windshield. The largest battery size depends on the trim chosen and yields between 508 and 522 kilometers (315 – 324 miles) of WLTP-rated range.
The automotive giant hopes to sell over 100,000 units this year. This appears realistic considering that even the ID.3 hatchback only reached production in September after numerous pre-launch quality issues and has already found 56,500 buyers despite that.
A factory in Zwickau, Germany handles the production of the ID.4 for Europe and the United States, while Chinese customers are served by assembly sites in Anting and Foshan. Enterprises in Emden, Germany and Chattanooga, USA are scheduled to launch next year.
The Volkswagen ID.4 came out in the past September and sold plenty of 1st Edition units in a number of markets, including the United States where the ID.3 hatchback is not yet available. Europe received the ID.4 in December 2020, and overseas sales are only just beginning now.
