Volkswagen announced an agreement last fall according to which it pledged to replace the entire vehicle pool of the Greek island of Astypalaia with EVs. The first batch of cars has just shipped.
The administration of the island will be the first to make the switch, while all private individuals will be given subsidies for buying electric cars. As for the today’s batch, it consisted of ID.4 SUVs outfitted as police cars, marking the first time Greece enlisted a battery vehicle for police service.
The electrification experiment will continue to run for five years. According to VW Group CEO Herbert Diess, the corporation will attempt to study what different people need in order to switch to fully electric mobility means.
