The dire effects global microchip shortage has on the automotive industry go a long way towards showing just how tech-heavy modern cars are. Volkswagen licensed 2G and 3G chips from Acer, but apparently neglected to license 4G ones as well, and is now facing a lawsuit.
In an action filed in Virginia, USA, Acer Inc. claims that Volkswagen installed the company’s 4G modules into its new cars without obtaining the necessary license. The models affected include the ID.4 (shown here), Altas, Golf and Tiguan models.
VW responded that it was aware of the claim and still investigating it, but refuted the infringement claim as unfounded. We will keep you updated as the events unfold.
