It is official that the Volkswagen ID.5 will drop the camo at the upcoming Munich Mobility Expo 2021 – albeit as a concept – but in the meantime, here is its high-end variant named the GTX.
The coupe-like SUV uses the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform, and the manufacturer claims the final production version will look 99% like the prototype shown here. On the outside and especially at the front, the performance EV looks much like its junior cousin, the ID.4 GTX. The rear end is considerably different, however, what with the bumper and the 3D taillights.
Power comes from dual electric motors mounted one per axle. Unofficial sources are reporting the same 300 horsepower (225 kilowatts) as the ID.4 GTX. As for the standard ID.5, it should have more driving range than the performance version at 497 kilometers (309 miles).
The production is scheduled to begin next year.
