Volkswagen first revealed a camouflaged ID.5 GTX prototype to us around a month ago, and followed up with testing it on the North Loop in a different wrap. The premiere is officially coming in two days now.
The company refuses to comment what kind of powertrain we should expect, but the ID.5 GTX is meant to be technically similar to the ID.4 GTX, hence, it will probably have around 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW), 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque, and around 480 kilometers (300 miles) of driving range. The numbers may be slightly off, but we expect them to be in that general area.
Volkswagen also mentioned that the performance-focused GTX version will be the first to debut, followed by a base spec later. Nothing is known about the base ID.5 model, but once again, it will likely be analogous to the stock ID.4, which has a single electric motor on the rear axle rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW).
