Meet Modern in, a China-made Nissan Leaf clone priced at $19.5k

Chinese carmaker Modern Auto has started sales of its first production car, an all-electric mini-hatchback based on the Modern A Concept. The urban roller is called ‘Modern in’ and comes in at 125,800 Chinese Yuan, which roughly amounts to $19,500 USD.

Opt for the top trim with extended range, and you will be looking at a 145,000 CNY ($22,475 USD) price tag. The entry spec reportedly has 420 kilometers (280 miles) of range, while the top spec has 610 km (379 miles). Both use the same electric motor rated at 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft), which takes them to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around eight seconds. The top speed makes 160 km/h (99 mph).

On the outside, the car looks barely distinguishable from the Nissan Leaf (watch the attached video for a comparison). It sports a dual-tone paintjob and slide-out door handles, as well as a multi-function steering wheel inside. The gauge cluster is digital, and the infotainment system boasts a 15-inch touchscreen along with a voice assistant. Front passengers get an individual display to themselves.

Options include adaptive cruise control, tire pressure control, automatic emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition.
