VW ID. Roomzz to go China-only for now

Volkswagen never mentioned any production prospects for its ID. Roomzz Concept in its recently published EV launch roadmap, but suspicious-looking prototypes have been repeatedly spotted on the road.

Now, CEO Ralf Brandstetter has officially confirmed that the production car is indeed under development – but only for China at the moment. Whether to make it available for other markets remains undecided.

Sales are slated to begin in 2022, and the launch should take place next year. Rumors claim the ID. Roomzz will come with two battery sizes – 77 and 111 kWh – that will be enough for 450 and 600 kilometers of range, respectively (280 and 373 miles). Even the base version will likely have dual electric motors and AWD. A range-topping variant might arrive packing around 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW).

The show car featured in the video had 306 PS (302 hp / 225 kW) when it debuted and could sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.6 seconds. Its 82-kWh battery gave it 450 km (280 miles) of WLTP-rated range. It was 4,930 mm (16.17 feet) long.

The production car name remains unannounced. Earlier rumors said it might be called the ID.6, but others claimed that name was already chosen for a new sedan and wagon based on the ID. Vizzion and ID. Space Vizzion concepts, respectively. Some also mentioned “Aero” and “Aero B” as possible names.
