Alauda Racing makes a sensation with its airborne F1 racing vehicle

The Australia-based car company Alauda Racing has introduced a most intriguing project it’s been working on, a hybrid of a classical Formula One racecar and a quadcopter. The company relies on crowdfunding to fuel the project and arrange the first ground-and-air racing event in history.

The vehicle, which is called Airspeeder Mark 1, comes with four electric engines rated at 68 hp each powered by state-of-the-art batteries. It can remain airborne for approximately 10 minutes and fly up to a maximum altitude of 3.5 kilometers (~11,500 ft).

The chassis frame of the Airspeeder Mark 1 is made of aluminum, whereas its body makes intensive use of composite materials – not surprisingly, given that it has to be as lightweight as possible.

Alauda Racing requests an initial investment of U.S. $75,330. The crowdfunding effort ends on January 10th, 2018.
