Alpina B3 spied testing in Spain

The new Alpina B3, based on the G20 BMW 3 Series, got caught in the lens on a public road in Spain. By the look of things, it should premiere in late 2019 or early 2020.

The former B3 came powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine good for 440 hp (328 kW) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque, enough to sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in four seconds. The marginally more powerful B4 S Edition 99 debuted last fall, packing 452 hp (337 kW) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque.

The new B3 can be safely expected to deliver as much as the upcoming BMW M3 to the wheels, and have a higher maximum torque at that. The M3 will ship with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine available in two versions. The standard one will produce 480 hp (358 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, whereas the Competition will up the ante with 510 hp (380 kW) at the same max torque.

A diesel variant, called the D3, is also in the works. The previous generation delivered up to 350 hp (261 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The new one will likely get the same powertrain upgrade as the XD3 SUV, specifically, 388 hp (289 kW) and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft). Like before, available body styles will include sedan/saloon and estate/wagon.
