Alpina’s latest luxury BMW build – the XB7 – received an extensive review on YouTube. Watch it here to find out if its engine, suspension and equipment improvements are enough to justify the asking price.
The flagship SUV sports a traditional held-back aero kit, a stainless steel exhaust system and elegant 20-inch alloys. The cabin gets illuminated steps, a different steering wheel, new gear and drive mode selectors, and other nice touches.
The greatest transformation can be found under the hood, where the stock 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 has been tuned to deliver 621 PS (610 hp / 457 kW) and up to 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque to the four wheels via a tweaked ZF 8-speed auto. Performance brakes help to cope with the power, and the suspension is air-cushioned.
The crossover now needs four seconds flat to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) and maxes out at 290 km/h (180 mph). It also covers a quarter of a mile in 12.6 seconds.
Prices in the United States start from U.S. $142,295, but throw in some options, and you will soon be looking at $200,000+.
