Baidu to establish its own EV brand

Baidu – a Chinese web corporation with Google ambitions – is looking for partners to team up with and make fully electric cars.

The IT giant has no intentions to build its own factories, instead looking for existing ones to rent. FAW, GAC and Geely are all being named as potential partners in the deal.

This is not the first time the largest China-based Internet search provider explores opportunities on the automotive market. Since 2017, Baidu has Apollo cars, a subdivision that focuses on automotive R&D (watch the video for details). In a recent news, the company also considered joining efforts with FAW to build autonomous vehicles.
