The authorities of California, United States, officially allowed self-driving cars without people inside to go on public roads. If earlier the mandatory condition was the presence in the autonomous car of a person at the driver's place, which could take over the management of the vehicle in case of emergency situations, now state roads are open to self-driving cars of absolutely all categories, even those where there are no standard controls in principle (steering wheel and pedals).
Despite rather liberal policy and continued support of innovative start-ups, for a long time California couldn't find consensus with many firms, testing self-driving cars. Other states, for example, Michigan, showed necessary flexibility of the legislation in time and allowed tests of unmanned vehicles without a driver. Tests of unmanned Uber taxi began in the State of Arizona in February. It occurred after the company faced a prohibition of the authorities of San Francisco to do such tests in December, 2016.
