At the Frankfurt Motor Show, it's not just car presentations. So the world famous tire and car components manufacturer Continental has shown its unique development to the general public - tires that are capable of reacting to changing road surfaces. Before the release of such a "shoe" for cars, according to company representatives, it is still far away, but the prototype already "has a place to be".
How did the designers succeed in achieving such a clever tire behavior? They equipped their creation with the ContiSense system, which is a conductive rubber with built-in sensors. They monitor the temperature of the tires and the depth of the tread in real time. In case of deviation from the basic parameters, the driver will immediately receive a corresponding notification from the system. Also ContiSense will signal if the tire is damaged, but the pressure in it has not yet fallen to a critical one. The designers are planning to teach the system to measure the temperature of the roadway and determine whether there is water or snow on it.
The name of the second technology is ContiAdapt. It is a microprocessor that evaluates the road condition and air temperature, and also changes the pressure and contact spot. The system works in several modes: a slippery road, a wet road, a rough road and, of course, a standard one.
